Hello Bill! We did look at OpenDJ and decided against it primarily because we weren't sure of its stability but more importantly its future.. This group tends to be very slow to change so we wanted something that was likely to be around for a while and easily maintained in Linux. I'm open to and interested in a dissenting opinion.

You might want to take a look at the OpenDJ project ( an active fork of OpenDS now that OpenDS has become stagnant).

The simplest way is to download the source from http://rsync.samba.org/ and build it. It will probably build fine in Ubuntu 8.0.4. Follow the instructions in the .tar.gz. Send me an email if you're still struggling and I'll do what I can.

Hi, nice post but we seem to be having problems with rsync and need to upgrade to 3.0.X.

However, not quite sure how to do this. We are running Ubuntu 8.0.4 LTS, and its not something I have done before. And can't find anything on google, directly related.

Any chance you could help me out.

Rahul,

Better late than never, I do sometimes use the Perl debugger (http://perldoc.perl.org/perldebug.html) but can usually get by with just printing variables when I have a problem.

Nice, thanks.

It seems you lost all your "\" in line breaks (\n) somewhere :)
(e.g.,
print "pidcount: $pidcount, parallelism: $parallelismn";
should be
print "pidcount: $pidcount, parallelism: $parallelism\n";
)
5 cases in total.

Otherwise seems to work fine.
